About the Old Age Grant
The Old Age Grant (also known as the Older Person's Grant) is a monthly payment made by the South African government to eligible elderly citizens and permanent residents. It provides financial support to older persons who would otherwise not have sufficient income.
Current Grant Amounts
Ages 60-74: R2,080 per month
Ages 75 and older: R2,100 per month
Amounts valid from April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026
Who Can Apply?
To qualify for the Old Age Grant, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee
- Live in South Africa
- Be 60 years or older
- Not receive any other social grant for yourself
- Not be cared for in a state institution
- Not earn more than R86,280 per year (R7,190 per month) if single
- Not earn more than R172,560 per year (R14,380 per month) combined income if married
- Not have assets worth more than R1,227,600 if single or R2,455,200 if married
