About the Child Support Grant
The Child Support Grant (CSG) is a monthly payment made to the primary caregiver of a child to help with the costs of raising the child. It is one of the most important social assistance programs in South Africa, reaching millions of children.

Who Can Apply?
The Child Support Grant is available to the primary caregiver of a child who meets the following criteria:
- The primary caregiver must be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee
- The child must be under 18 years of age
- The caregiver and spouse must meet the requirements of the means test
- The child cannot be cared for in a state institution
- The caregiver must be the primary person responsible for the child's daily needs

SASSA pays Child Support Grants on specific days each month. Payment dates are determined by the last three digits of your SASSA grant number or ID number.
