Your status shows Approved — now you want to know WHEN the money comes. SASSA pays SRD R370 grants on different dates depending on your payment method: bank account, Post Office, Shoprite, or Pick n Pay. There is no single universal SASSA payment date. Each beneficiary has an assigned pay date determined by their registered payment channel. This page tells you everything you need to know about when and how SASSA pays in 2026.

A common misconception is that SASSA pays all SRD beneficiaries on the same fixed calendar date — for example, the 1st of every month. This is not how it works. SASSA staggers payments across a window of days to prevent system overload and long queues at pay points. The result is that different beneficiaries receive their money on different days within the same month, even if they applied at the same time.
Your payment date is assigned based on your payment method. Bank account holders receive payments first because electronic transfers can be processed in bulk overnight without physical queuing. Post Office and retail pay point payments follow in the days after, as these require physical infrastructure and in-person collection.
The term "pay date" refers to the date SASSA has scheduled your payment to be sent out. The "payment window" is the broader range of days during which your payment could arrive, accounting for bank processing times, Post Office operating hours, and retail system updates. For bank accounts, the payment window is typically 1 to 2 business days after the pay date. For Post Office and retail pay points, the window can be 1 to 3 days.
Once your status shows Approved on the SC19 portal at srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status, your pay date will appear in the portal within a few days of the payment run being finalised. The portal displays the date in a format such as "15 August 2026" — that is the date SASSA sends your payment. Allow 1 to 2 business days on top of that for the money to reach your bank account or for your pay point to be activated.
If you check the portal on the 1st of the month and no pay date appears yet, this does not mean your payment is cancelled. It means SASSA's payment run for your batch has not been finalised yet. Check back every day or two. Pay dates typically appear between the 5th and 15th of each month as SASSA processes the batches.
Public holidays shift pay dates. SASSA does not process payments on public holidays or weekends. If your assigned pay date falls on a public holiday, the payment is typically moved to the business day immediately before the holiday — not after. Always account for this when you are waiting for payment around long weekends.
The payment method you registered for when you applied — or updated later — determines when you receive your money each month. Here is what to expect for each method.
Bank transfers are processed electronically and are the fastest way to receive your SRD payment. SASSA initiates bank transfers first in each payment run. If your bank account is correctly linked and verified, your payment typically arrives within the first 5 to 7 business days of the month. The money appears in your account within 1 to 2 business days of SASSA sending the transfer.
To check: log into your banking app or check your balance via ATM. You can also check the SC19 portal — once the pay date shows, count 1 to 2 business days forward. If the money has not arrived 3 business days after your pay date, check your status again and verify your account details are still correct.
What to bring: nothing — the money transfers automatically. Make sure your account is active and has not been dormant for more than 90 days, as some banks close dormant accounts automatically.
Post Office payments are collected in person at any South African Post Office branch. SASSA processes Post Office payments after bank transfers, so your pay date will typically be from the 3rd to the 8th of the month. You can only collect your payment on or after your assigned pay date — arriving before that date will result in your payment not being available yet.
What to bring: your original green barcoded ID book or smart ID card. No photocopies accepted. Some Post Offices may ask you to confirm your cell number as an additional security check. Queue jumping is not permitted — arrive in order and wait.
To check your specific Post Office pay date: use the SC19 portal or WhatsApp 082 046 8553.
Shoprite and Checkers use a voucher system. SASSA sends an SMS to your registered phone number with a voucher or reference that you use at the Shoprite or Checkers money market counter. Pay windows for retail typically start from the 5th to the 10th of the month. Take the SMS to the customer service desk or money market counter, and show your ID along with the SMS reference.
Pick n Pay operates similarly to Shoprite. An SMS with a payment reference is sent to your phone when your payment is ready. Collect at a Pick n Pay store money market or service desk. The pay window mirrors the Shoprite window: typically from the 5th to the 10th of each month.
Some beneficiaries receive their payment via a mobile money solution through their cellphone number. Payment windows for these methods depend on the mobile payment provider processing times. Check your registered number for an SMS notification from SASSA confirming your payment has been sent.
SASSA publishes a general payment schedule but does not publish exact individual pay dates in advance. The table below shows the approximate windows based on the 2025/26 payment patterns. Use this as a guide only — your specific date depends on your payment method and when SASSA processes your batch. Always check the SC19 portal for your confirmed date.

December is the one month where SASSA often processes payments slightly earlier than usual because of the holiday period. Bank transfer dates in December may arrive as early as the 1st. Post Office and retail payments are also moved forward to ensure beneficiaries have access to funds before the holiday shutdown. Watch for a SASSA announcement in November each year for the December schedule.
If you are comparing notes with a friend or family member and your pay dates are different, this is completely normal. Several factors determine when your specific payment arrives.
Bank account holders always receive payment before Post Office and retail pay point beneficiaries. This is a deliberate SASSA policy to stagger the payment flow and prevent simultaneous queues across the country. If you want to receive your payment earlier in the month, switching to a bank account is the most effective change you can make. See the section on changing payment methods below.
When you are newly approved, your first payment may arrive later in the month than more established beneficiaries. SASSA adds new approvals to their payment batches as the month progresses, which means some new approvals end up in the second or third batch of the payment run. Your pay date should stabilise to an earlier window from the second month of receiving the grant.
In months with public holidays — such as Heritage Day in September, Day of Goodwill in December, or Women's Day in August — SASSA moves affected pay dates to the nearest business day before the holiday. This means your payment could arrive 1 to 2 days earlier than the portal date suggests in these months.
If you changed your banking details in the past 2 to 4 weeks, your first payment to the new account may be delayed or processed in the following month. SASSA must verify new banking details before sending payments, which takes 1 to 3 business days. If the verification completes after SASSA's payment run has already been processed, you will receive payment in the next month's run instead.
If your pay date has passed and you have not received payment, do not panic immediately. Allow 3 full business days after your pay date before escalating. Bank processing times, Post Office admin, and retail system updates all add time between SASSA sending the payment and you being able to access it. After 3 business days with no payment, follow the steps in the section below.
Rather than relying on the general monthly schedule, you should always check your personal payment date through one of these official channels.
Go to srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status and enter your 13-digit SA ID number and registered phone number. Once your status shows Approved, scroll down to find the payment date section. SASSA displays the date in a format such as "Payment Date: 08 August 2026." This is the date SASSA sends your payment — allow 1 to 2 extra business days for the money to reflect in your account or for your pay point to be activated.
If the portal shows Approved but no payment date yet, check back daily. The payment date populates within 2 to 5 days of approval as the payment run is finalised.
Send "Hi" to 082 046 8553 on WhatsApp. From the menu that appears, select the option for payment status or payment date. The chatbot will pull your payment information from the SASSA system and display your current status and payment date. This method works on the Moya App at zero data cost if you have no mobile data.
Dial *134*7737# on any South African SIM card. Follow the menu prompts and enter your ID number when asked. The system will return your current status and, if a payment date has been set, display it on screen. This works without internet access and on any network.
Call the toll-free SASSA helpline, Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 16:00. Have your SA ID number and registered phone number ready. Ask the agent for your payment date for the current month. The agent can see the same information as the SC19 portal but can also explain what is causing any delays that the portal does not describe in detail.
If your pay date has passed and you have not received your R370, follow these steps in order before contacting SASSA.
You can change your payment method or update your banking details at any time through the SASSA SRD portal. Changes are not instant — SASSA must verify your new details before sending payments. Here is everything you need to know about changing your payment method.
Go to srd.sassa.gov.za and select "Update Banking Details" or "Change Payment Method" from the main menu. Enter your 13-digit SA ID number and your registered phone number. An OTP will be sent to your registered number — enter it to verify your identity. Then select your new bank from the dropdown, enter your account number, select the account type, and upload proof of banking (a bank statement or bank confirmation letter not older than 3 months). Submit and wait 1 to 3 business days for verification.
For full step-by-step instructions on updating your banking details and what documents to prepare, see our guide on SASSA banking details.
Visit srd.sassa.gov.za, select "Change Payment Method," and choose "Bank Account" instead of "Post Office." Follow the same banking detail update steps above. This is one of the most common changes beneficiaries make, as bank transfers are faster and do not require travel to a Post Office.
Change your payment method at least 2 weeks before your expected payment date for the change to apply in the current month. If you change your details after the 15th of the month, there is a high probability that the current month's payment has already been processed and will go to your old payment method. The new details will then apply from the following month's payment run.
